Happy National Jaychoke Day, Everybody!

Every year, about this time, we gather together to celebrate National Jaychoke Day. It is a time-honored tradition in many families across the country and is always observed the day after the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team loses in a monumental upset in the NCAA basketball tournament. This year, Kansas lost to a team that was barely over .500 in their weak conference, a team that had lost to Brigham Young, California and Colorado ... at home. The Jaychokes lost in the tournament to a Stanford team that had 12 losses on the year and should have been in the NIT.

How does Bill Self manage to take the best talent into the NCAA Tournament every year, and year in and year out, leave early as the victim of a huge upset?

If you took the seeds of the teams that beat Kansas every year for the last 9 years, and you subtracted Kansas' seed, which was usually a #1 or #2, you would get a number equal to or greater to the number of stars existing in the Galaxy.

In the history of sport, has there ever been a bigger flameout than Kansas Jaychoke basketball? The only one we could come up with was the Buffalo Bills, but at least they would get to the Championship Game before choking.

Ahhhhh, Bucknell. That was a great National Jaychoke Day.  After that one, they started calling Self, "Bucknell Bill." Boy, if we kept doing that, he would be called, "Bucknell Bradley Bill Stanford Michigan Self, N.I." Of course, the N.I. stands for Northern Iowa.

Trey Burke is celebrating a day early! That year, Michigan came back from three touchdowns worth of points as Bill Self's team folded like a Slinky. The only biggest comeback score-wise in the history of the NCAA Tournament was when the Fighting Illini fought back against Arizona to get to the Final Four in 2005.

And remember the Bradley game? That Bradley team had all those future pros on it like .... ummm ... I'm drawing a blank. Well, they had that great center who now works at a gas station in Peoria.

With all of the cheating (see first post below) and the under-handed dealings, you'd think that Kansas could avoid the upset once every four or five years, but, alas, it is in their chicken dna.

I am hereby nominating Kansas Basketball Head Coach Bill Self to the Hall of Shame.

And for all those awesome Jaychoke fans, here's this:

"It's the most wonderful time of the year,
There'll be Bucknells a ringing,
and Bradleys a'singing,
and Cardinal of goooooood cheer,
It's the hap-happiest time of  ... the ... year!"

Okay, enough of this Kansas Fail Porn for now. Well, except for this:

Happy Jaychoke Day, Everybody!
